Jim LaBate
Jim (James) is a seasoned investor with 40+ years in finance, including over 30 years at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley, where he managed a $300M+ public equity and debt portfolio with a deep-value investment approach.
Beyond public markets, Jim has invested in, managed, and sold numerous private equity and debt-financed companies across industries like technology, entertainment, security, agriculture, and healthcare. He also has extensive experience in real estate development and structured financing.
An active community leader, he has served as Chairman of the Association for Corporate Growth, Community Foundation of Broward, Broward College Foundation, and Bonnet House, among others. He has also held board roles with the Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCA, and Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
Jim holds a BS in Business Administration from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and attended graduate courses at Geneva College, FAU, and the University of Pittsburgh.
A Fort Lauderdale resident, he is married with two daughters.
Michael Hoyos
Michael is an investor and entrepreneur with deep experience in early-stage venture and late-stage private equity transactions across industries, with a focus on health innovation.
Previously, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, leading engagements in Life Sciences and Healthcare. He also co-founded The Conscious Fund, a venture capital firm funding novel mental health therapeutics, and started Kensho Ventures, partnering with UHNW families to manage $100M+ private equity portfolios.
At McCombie Group, he launched the firm's principal investments arm, held interim leadership roles at portfolio companies, and led consulting engagements which spanned industries from healthcare to financial services.
He began his career at JPMorgan Asset Management, working on teams managing over $12B in assets.
He is also the founder of Overview Labs, where he partners with disruptive organizations driving innovation in mental healthcare.
Michael holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and BS in Economics (cum laude) from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
